What are Gold Parties ?
Posted by sharon - 16/02/10 at 07:02 pmHave you noticed all the adverts lately asking for our gold? Gold, gold, gold everywhere and apparently we’ve all got some of it stuffed away somewhere in our homes! The latest party planner company on the block is the Gold Party where a group of people, family or friends can get together, sell their unwanted jewellery gifts and trinkets, maybe an old pair of earrings, a necklace, a bangle or two or an old ring which has long been too small for them.

The concept of gold parties sounds extremely simple, but there is more to running a gold party than meets the eye. The company who run the gold party (examples at the end of this article) bring an array of machines that tell if the jewellery is gold in the first place (if it’s magnetic, it isn’t apparently). They then can tell you the carat reading usually by scanning the metal with a gel-emitting pen. The value of the gold is calculated according to how much it weighs. The price you are offered will be that day’s fixed gold price (the London Gold Price). Today for example it is £713.075 per troy ounce.
The party host usually receives a percentage of the total amount of gold (or silver or platinum) bought that evening and extra incentives should the party host’s friends book their own parties. They also often receive a fee to cover drinks and nibbles. What a great idea, something we’re all finding very tempting here at Party Plan Together. We do however, recommend you read the Walletpop artictle about avoiding gold party scams before booking your gold party – click here.
There are also some companies you can join as a rep and earn extra organising parties for others.
