Mixing Business with Pleasure – how local events can help your party plan business succeed
Posted by sharon - 03/02/10 at 08:02 pmAs well as shopping on the high street and internet, many people – particularly busy mums – are now shopping at local events ranging from baby shows to street fairs, village fetes, farmers markets and shopping evenings. Schools, nurseries, preschools and other community charities are also keen to use events as a fundraising tool, so from Surrey to Somerset, a wide range of events are now being held all around the country every single week of the year.

These fairs, bazaars and regular events are a great way for people to do their shopping. Sometimes, people visit them as part of a family day out – for example, agricultural shows, craft fairs and carnivals where the whole family can find something to do. This has led to the creation of websites such as Where Can We Go and What’s on For Little Ones. Many people now use websites like these to find places to go for a weekend or holiday day out. Alternatively, people see events such as Christmas shopping evenings, pamper events and baby shows as a way to shop without having to face the high street crush. Ladies’ indulgence or pamper evenings are a great way to get out in the evening with the ‘girls’ and have fun shopping and chatting over a glass of wine and some nibbles!

In the past couple of years, there has been a noticeable increase in the amount of baby shows being put on in the UK. Companies such as Mumsworld Events, Issyboo, Little Monster Baby and Toddler Shows and Bump, Birth and Beyond are setting up all around the country.
Whether you are a party planner or a direct seller, there are many events all around the country where you can book a stall and sell a whole range of products, such as cosmetics from Vie at Home, toys from Tish Tash Toys (pictured below at Stockland Country market in Devon), kitchen products from Pampered Chef or books from Usborne.

If you have never tried selling your products at events, then give it a go as it’s great for marketing your small business in your local area, meeting new clients and possible new team members. As well as providing a selling opportunity, these events are a great advertisement and will often lead to party bookings, new recruits and orders via word of mouth. Start looking today and you will find that there are lots of events in your local area. Party Plan Together even has it’s own events page - a great starting point for you!
Alternatively, if you are thinking of organising an event in your local area, what better place to advertise it than on the events page of Party Plan Together to attract a wide variety of stallholders. You can also find events listings on the Stallfinder website and Netmums.
